It&#8217;s approximately 400 km road through the Gobi desert, there is literally nothing there, not one hotel or place to stay. 80 km after Dunhuang you don&#8217;t have any phone signal anymore for quite a while, however rest assured in case of emergency there is quite some traffic on the road since it&#8217;s the only connection between Dunhuang and Hami. <br />160 km after Dunhuang is a police checkpoint and a little resting area BUT there is no functioning gas station. He described Hami as a place with fantastic sweet melons.
