Aizhai Mega Bridge

The Aizhai Bridge in Hunan Province, China, is a monumental feat of civil engineering, standing as one of the world's highest and longest suspension bridges. Spanning the Dehang Grand Canyon, it dramatically shortens travel time across a rugged region, showcasing China's prowess in bridge construction.

Completed in March 2012, the Aizhai Bridge is a testament to modern engineering. With a main span of 1,176 meters (3,858 feet) and a deck height of 336 meters (1,102 feet) above the canyon floor, it was, at the time of completion, the world’s highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge . The bridge’s design includes a 1,000-meter-long steel truss girder, weighing approximately 8,000 tons, and is supported by cables with a diameter of 85 cm composed of 169 steel strands

The construction of the Aizhai Bridge involved innovative techniques, such as the world’s first track cable sliding method for main truss beam installation and the use of carbon fiber prestressed cables for anchoring the rock anchor base . These advancements not only facilitated the bridge’s construction in a challenging mountainous terrain but also set new standards in bridge engineering
